The Cape of Home, Health, Hope
Exhibitions
Created by Dr Marion Lynch, the Cape traces four generations of nursing and migration, linking family histories with wider questions of identity, service and belonging. It has become a participatory installation: more than 20 people, not only nurses, have put the cape on and expressed how it felt. People spoke of the weight, of memories of a mother wearing her cape, and of the wish they had kept their own. The Cape was exhibited at the SIGMA Research Conference at Brunel University and is one of only 13 UK artworks selected for the European CARE - Culture for Mental Health resource. It is now on display at Royal Derby Hospital, in the Air Arts Home, Health and Hope exhibition, until spring 2028, in a hospital that reaches more than 12,000 NHS staff and around one million patients and visitors each year.
Now on display: Royal Derby Hospital, Air Arts: Home, Health and Hope, until spring 2028.

Wearing the stories
The Cape became a participatory installation: people wore it, added to it and shared the memories it carried.
